The following points were made during discussions on the matter at November’s meeting of Portobello Community Council:-
  • The current road surface was laid less than 10 years ago
  • Portobello is a Conservation Area and setted streets are a recognised part of Edinburgh’s heritage.
  • Closing all or part of Brighton Place could cause considerable inconvenience to local residents and business owners
  • Closing all or part of Brighton Place could be damaging to Portobello High Street retailers and other businesses in the area.
  • The current poor surface and the speed and size of vehicles is believed to be causing considerable vibration in nearby homes.
  • The current poor surface is often raised by cyclists as a concern
