Proposed Junction Alteration – Baileyfield Road at Sir Harry LauderRoad

Posted on: March 20th, 2018

Please find attached a letter regarding Proposed Junction Alteration – Baileyfield Road at Sir Harry Lauder Road.

PROPOSED JUNCTION ALTERATION – BAILEYFIELD ROAD AT SIR HARRY LAUDER ROAD

The Road Safety Team undertakes an annual collision investigation into all streets within the City of Edinburgh Council area. This investigation is carried out using the collision details supplied by Police Scotland, which is responsible for the collection of all personal injury road traffic collision data within its force area. From this analysis it is possible to determine locations where the collision rate is giving cause for concern and where remedial works may require to be implemented.

The junction of Baileyfield Road and Sir Harry Lauder Road has been highlighted as a site which gives cause for concern. Over the latest three-year period of held data (up to the end of September 2017) there have been four collisions, all involving vehicle shunts whilst exiting the junction. These collisions involved the lead vehicle starting to move forward then stopping while the following vehicle moving forward and striking the rear of the first.

It is proposed to introduce a STOP line and sign in place of the current GIVE WAY at this junction. The intention is to slow down the decision-making process at the junction and ensure that each vehicle physically stops at the junction. I have attached a plan showing the details of this change.
