Brighton Place Sett Reconstruction – update 10 July

Posted on: July 10th, 2018

The following information is the most up-to-date Portobello Community Council has on the programme to reconstruct Brighton Place with setts. It is based on information shared by Lothian Buses ahead of the 25 June meeting, discussion at the meeting and subsequent follow up from Cllr Laidlaw. City of Edinburgh Council officials were asked for an update, but none was supplied.

September is firming up as the project start date. Further technical details of the work are available via the links at the bottom of the post.

Buses

Lothian Buses have been investigating “no cost” and “cost” options. The cost options would require financial support from City of Edinburgh Council.

The no-cost option would see the 21 and/or 49 divert along Portobello Road, offering a same stop interchange with the 26 (& other services) to/from Portobello High Street, then Northfield Broadway, Mountcastle Drive, Duddingston Road, Duddingston Park… This option would give all stops in the area service, with the exception of Brighton Place and Baileyfield Road.

There have also been discussions about a cost option of the 21, preferably, or the 49 going via Portobello High Street and Eastfield.

Working group

The Council are looking to form a working group, with a business liaison manager to working with local businesses and groups ahead of the construction work. However given holidays and recruitment timelines this group would not likely meet before August.

The working group would seek to include representatives from the local traders, community council, St John’s RC Church, Clifton Mews retirement home, PEDAL Market and St John’s & Duddingston Primary School parent councils.
