Maureen Child Update 15 March 2019

Posted on: March 15th, 2019

Dear All

We Councillors hear worries and concerns about the caravans and mobile homes parked, perfectly legally, on the public highway at the foot of Kings Road and the people who might stay there.  They are not part of an encampment, but have arrived individually.  Some come and go. To try and deal with this issue and understand the possible needs of both permanent and temporary residents, in and around there, regular visits are made by housing officers, environmental wardens and police.  If witnesses provide police with any real, solid evidence of antisocial behaviour on the part any identifiable individual, action can be taken.  Phone 101. So far, all we have are unsubstantiated general allegations.  One of the proposals to deal with those parking there overnight has been to put in parking restrictions. Legally, this would require public consultation at the start and that tortuous process has begun.  See here: http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/12109/proposed_map_tile

Police Scotland are just finishing off a Scotland-wide consultation on what your priorities are for them, and you have a few more days to respond.  Please do have a look here: https://consult.scotland.police.uk/consultation/2019shape The deadline is 18 March.

The Council has put the old laundry building in Pittville Street Lane to the east of Portobello Swim Centre on the market .  See here:
