Maureen Child Update 26 February 2021

Posted on: February 26th, 2021

Dear All

Duddingston cycle path is closed between North Cairntow and the Bingham Tunnel until the 3 March to allow necessary forestry works to happen before the start of the nesting season.  The long-established gypsy traveller people’s site here is being redesigned and rebuilt by the Council’s housing service, working closely on the design with the community there over the last five years.  It will be great to see this fruits of this collaboration in built form.

Portobello British Legion are looking for new members and welcome any interest from local people. You don’t have to have served in the forces to become a member.  The cost of membership is £20/year and you can get an application form sent out by writing to Portobello RBLS, 2 Joppa Pans, Edinburgh EH15 2HF or call 0131 669 5418.

Portobello Community Council’s consultation on on the two proposals for Portobello Town Hall has indicated some strong local community support for Portobello Central’s ideas.  Both interested parties have been asked to work up their proposals in more detail over the next couple of weeks.  A report on the way forward for Portobello Town Hall will be considered by the Council’s finance and resources committee in May. People are getting together to work on plans for a Craigmillar Gala this year and are looking for volunteers interested in getting involved with art, outdoor activities, communication, theatre or anything else gala-related. These are virtual Meetings taking place next week on Wednesday 3 March at 4pm and 8pm.  Contact Will Golding at Connecting Craigmillar if you want to link up and help make it happen at connectingcraigmilar@gmail.com or Karin Chipulina at karinchipulina@carrgomm.org

The Council opened a consultation this week on which walking and cycling ‘Spaces for People’ changes might be made permanent.   Click here: https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/roads-travel-parking/street-schemes-proposals/.  Portobello Community Council have more local Porty information on their website:  http://www.portobellocc.org/pccpn/2021/02/24/retaining-spaces-for-people-measures-consultation-open/.  It runs until midnight 21 March.  There are also recently installed safer spaces around Brunstane Primary School in Magdalene and Moffat Way around Niddrie Mill and St Frances joint campus Schools in Craigmillar.

Wishing you a good weekend, staying safe and well.

Maureen
