Taking care of your sewer network on Portobello Beach at Westbank Street

Posted on: November 12th, 2021

Update from Scottish Water on repairs to sewer at the mouth of the Figgate Burn:

“Taking care of your sewer network on Portobello beach at Westbank Street.

What we are doing: We are taking care of the waste water services in your community by repairing the sewer network to help protect the environment.

When are we doing it: Works started on Portobello Beach at Westbank Street on Monday 8th November.

What happens next:

•             Your water supply and drainage services from your kitchen and bathroom will not be affected by our work.

•             The section of sewer requiring to be repaired in within the beach, and due to this, works can only be undertaken, for a short period of times, during low tides and potentially out with normal working hours.

•             To minimise the potential for impact to the local environment we will be installing a temporary over pumping system to bypass the damaged section of sewer whilst the repair is undertaken.

•             Pedestrian access will be maintained but please stay safe and follow all signs put in place.

•             During the work you may notice some noise from construction equipment.

We are working as quickly as we can to complete these essential works, thank you for your patience and understanding.”

UPDATE 22 Nov: this work has been completed; with Scottish Water now undertaking CCTV surveys of the surrounding sewers.
