Maureen Child Update 4 March 2022

Posted on: March 4th, 2022

Dear All

Remember Portobello Market is at Brighton Park tomorrow Saturday 9.30am to 1.30pm.  See you there? https://www.pedal-porty.org.uk/food/portobello-market/. Portobello Apple Juice will be on sale and – I hope – copies of a new bigger better edition of Jim Hurford’s book of limericks 400 limericks and illustrated by local artists.

Two changes around the ‘Joppa Triangle’ experimental changes.  ‘No Parking’ signs have been put on the fence opposite the entrance to Joppa Station Place  Some drivers have parked their cars there and prevented vehicles getting in and out.  Also Eastfield Gardens have been added to the lost of places where traffic counts will be taken during this period.

The Puffin crossing at Durham Road South on Milton Road West has been inspected and fixed since last week.  There was a fault with the detector which extends the crossing time for pedestrians.

On the closure of the lower road in Holyrood Park, Historic Environment Scotland that ‘rock risk safety mitigation’ contractor is working 8am-5 pm to finish ASAP. Recent weather got in their way but the catch fence installations are progressing well.  They anticipate with completion still anticipated around 18 March weather permitting. After clearing the site, they anticipate the Low Road being re-opened by the end of March. The City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) can re-open the Innocent Railway path as soon as the rock works are done and there’s no longer a risk of rocks falling.  Mean time Innocent Railway Path closed 8.30am – 4pm each week day.

On Tuesday I was at a session of Into University Craigmillar, based in The fab art deco White House 70 Niddrie Mains Road.  This project has been up and running for a year and is already achieving so much alongside our brilliant local schools in partnership with the University of Edinburgh.  The particular session we joined was run by Lyra children’s theatre company, also based in Craigmillar.  The project works with children from families who did not traditionally think of themselves as going to university or college, and working with them right through school.  It was a totally inspiring visit.  More about what they do here: www.intouniversity.org/content/our-impact

On Sunday Bellfield Makers’ Spring Market is on at Bellfield on Sunday 11am to 4pm showcasing a beautiful selection of handmade products.  Advance tickets are on sale on their website and also on the day at the door.  Children under 16 get in free. https://supportthemakersuk.com/

I hope you have a good weekend.

Maureen
