Bellfield gets Green Light from Scottish Land Fund!
We are delighted to announce that Action Porty’s application to the Scottish Land Fund has been successful!
To celebrate the good news we would like to see all our supporters, friends and family this morning for a photo – please come along and join us!
Please come to Bellfield Street at 10:00am this morning for a photo and a chat.
The Scottish Land Fund Committee have approved a grant of £647,500 which includes a sum of up to £570,000 towards the purchase of the church and halls – the final figure will depend on the outcome of the independent valuation process, which has been commissioned by the Scottish Government. The final part of the Community Right to Buy process will involve a ballot of Portobello residents.
We will be sending out further information in advance of the ballot, but it is important that as many local people as possible return their ballot papers, to demonstrate community support for the project!
Action Porty would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and hard work so far. The local Church community of Portobello and Joppa Parish Church have and continue to be extremely supportive of this process.
There is still considerable work ahead if we are to fully realise our aspirations for Bellfield, but, this funding should enable the community to acquire Bellfield in the months ahead, and represents significant progress in our journey towards achieving a community owned and run Bellfield.
The project will however require the continued support of the people of Portobello - so look out for the ballot paper (which will be distributed by post) and make sure that you vote!
