Power of food Festival
at Donkeyfield Orchard
Saturday 17 June from 12 noon – 3pm
The next event at the Donkeyfield Community Orchard (Brunstane Road South) will be part of The Power of Food Festival, an Edinburgh-wide celebration of community growing spaces and gardens across the city will be open on 17 and 18 June.

For our event at the orchard we shall be doing a summer pruning workshop, where you will learn how to prune your fruit trees in the summer in order to increase their productivity.  We shall also be doing apple pressing – come along to see the fruit being turned into delicious juice – and taste it of course!  There will also be crafts – leaf-inspired bunting making – and refreshments.  Milton Road Community Garden is nearby and will also be open during the same hours so we hope you will come and visit both growing spaces.
Please keep an eye out for for posters and check our Facebook page for more details nearer the time: https://www.facebook.com/Portobello-Community-Orchard-539555379554046/
Here is short film of last year’s festival, including some footage shot at the orchard: https://vimeo.com/217994404
Please feel free to pass on this message to anyone you think would be interested.
We look forward to seeing you at the orchard on 17 June.

From Monday  26th June, Portobello residents will be able to collect and return tools at Portobello Library. The Edinburgh Tool Library comes to Portobello! The Edinburgh Tool Library works exactly like a library, but with tools instead of books. Members can borrow from over 4,000 tools, including power tools, hand tools, gardening gear and decorating kit.

You will also be able to sign up as a member of the Tool Library and find out more about volunteering and donating those unloved tools we all have festering in the garden shed! Members will also have access to our fully equipped woodworking workshop based in Custom Lane, Leith.

In addition to lending out tools, we run an extensive programme of community projects, working with different groups across Edinburgh to dream, design and build! Our Tools For Life programme offers mentorship and training for young people looking for work. We regularly take on small commissions for pieces of built work, both in our workshop and on site, with all our proceeds going to help us work with more community groups and with individuals who can benefit from our help.

If you know of a community group in Portobello who could use our help then please send them our way! We will be in Portobello Library every Monday, starting from Monday 26th June, between 4.30pm and 7pm.

Please drop in to join or find out more! If you have any questions please contact

POWER TO CHANGE: THE ENERGY REBELLION

Location: Grassmarket Centre, Edinburgh
Tickets: £5/4  bit.ly/PowerEd

Can our advanced industrial civilisation meet the needs of a growing population without wrecking our planet?

At a crucial time for the transformation of Scotland’s energy landscape, Take One Action are delighted to be partnering with Friends of the Earth Scotland to tour Power to Change, an informative and entertaining documentary which explores existing and emerging possibilities for a radical re-imagining of how we power our world.

Through encounters with activists, entrepreneurs, sceptics, dreamers and policy makers at the heart of Germany’s energy revolution, Power to Change offers tangible pointers to the power we all have to put sustainability at the heart of the worlds transport, housing, agriculture and energy future.

Join us after each screening for an audience led discussion hosted by Take One Action with Dr Richard Dixon, Director of Friends of the Earth Scotland, and representatives from Stop Climate Chaos Scotland.
