On 21 Feb 2018 an application to demolish the bulk of the George Cinema, 14 Bath St, while maintaining the façade, with multiple window intrusions, was refused by the City of Edinburgh Council.

A request for permission to demolish the former George Cinema and Bingo Hall at 14 Bath St, Portobello, has been refused by City of Edinburgh Council Development Management Committee.

At a hearing in the City Chambers on Wednesday, 21 February, the committee agreed unanimously that the application for partial demolition of the building to make way for 20 flats be rejected.
