The contact to get on the mailing list is Scott Neill / Lifelong Learning Service Manager / North East Locality/ 101 Niddrie Mains Road/ Edinburgh / EH16 4DS/ Tel: 0131 469-5326 email scott.neil@edinburgh.gov.uk.

As many of you will know, I have been inspired by the work of the Thistle Foundation in Craigmillar.  This fantastic organisation are celebrating 75 years and inviting everybody to the celebration event on the afternoon of Friday 5 June at their Centre of Wellbeing Queen’s Walk EH16 4EA.  There is a summer fete with circus workshops, fairground games, crazy golf, a petting zoo, music performances and much more.  Do come along, 2pm to 5 pm, and bring family and friends.

If you are passionate about opportunities for children and young people for reading and writing, do consider joining the team of volunteers at Craigmillar Book Festival. This is a great opportunity to see behind the scenes of a literacy project, support children and young people and make useful contacts for the future. They welcome volunteers who are available throughout the year and/or during the Festival in November. Interested? Here’s how to get more information: Drop in to Craigmillar Library on Friday 7 June or Friday 14 June 11am-3pm and chat to Agot, Literacy Programmes Coordinator email craigmillarbookfestival@gmail.com or phone/text 07434 651 183

Volunteer Edinburgh helped EVOC celebrate their 150th anniversary by gathering 150 quotes about volunteering to hang on a tree for display.  Then the idea grew into a multimedia website, dedicated to sharing and celebrating the powerful stories of volunteering. Volunteer Edinburgh have curated quotes, films, photos and case studies all with one thing in common – volunteering and the transformational power of giving your time and talents.  Have a look, and do think about adding your own volunteering story, or encouraging some one else to do so! Have a great weekend!

Maureen
