Dear All
The deadline for nominations to Community Councils is 4pm this coming Monday 30 September. It’s a strict deadline. For each nomination, names and addresses must be checked against the Electoral Register and everything needs to be in order, e.g. you cannot nominate or second more than one person for the role of Community Councillor and the person nominated has to sign that they agree to be nominated. This checking takes time and if there are any inconsistencies, you and the Returning Officers and Council Elections team will have a bit of time to sort it – but only if you get your nomination form in early! When I’m out and about this weekend in Craigmillar and Portobello, I will have forms with me. Or you can download them from the website: http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20133/community_planning/730/community_councils . There are three Community Councils covering our Portobello/Craigmillar Ward in whole or in part. Find out about yours here: http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20017/our_main_offices/571/find_your_locality_ward_and_community_council
If any of Edinburgh’s Community Council areas nominate less than half the allocated number of potential Community Councillors, that Community Council will fall – until the community begins to feel the loss and20 of them petition the City Council for another one! Please do get your forms to me by scanning or taking a photograph of the completed form and emailing. Don’t rely on paper and snail mail at this rather late stage. My contact details are below, so do please contact me over the weekend, if you have any queries at all!
