Portobello Park Tree Removal
Following an inspection of Portobello Park by parks staff earlier today a number of trees have been identified that will need to be removed on health and safety grounds. It has been agreed that all should be made safe as quickly as possible and then removed during the February school holiday to minimise disruption to learning and teaching.
One tree at Hope Lane will be made safe this afternoon by the removal of its branches and works will begin tomorrow morning to make the other thirteen safe. Since this work is weather dependent and, following discussions with the school, it has been agreed that works should start with the trees nearest the school (Park Avenue). This will ensure that if works do go into early next week there will be no noise disruption to pupils sitting their prelims which start on Monday.
Before works start tomorrow, letters will be put through the doors of residents to explain what is happening (copy attached).
All trees will be removed during the February break when replanting will also take place. Portobello High School and Parks are also exploring the possibility of the trees being recycled by the school.
